It is with heartfelt sympathy, we announce the passing of Mr. Artis Lewis Thompkins , Jr., age 77, of Madison, Florida, who departed this earthly life on Monday, April 6, 2026.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Mt. Zion AME Church (Madison), 576 SW Dade Street, Madison, FL 32340, with the interment to follow in Oakridge No. 2 Cemetery, 1376 SW CR 360, Madison, FL 32340.

Artis Lewis Thompkins, Jr. , was born March 9, 1949, in Madison County, Florida. He was the first born to Artis Lewis, Sr. and Henrietta Fiffia Thompkins. Artis was preceded in death by his daughter: Melissa Thompkins; his loving parents; and brother: Willie C. Thompkins.

Artis, affectionately known as "Slow Roll It", was employed as a logger. He found great joy spending time with family and friends. Early in life, he accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and remained steadfast in his faith. He was a devoted member of Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church.

On Monday, April 6, 2026, God summoned Brother Artis Lewis Thompkins, Jr., Home for his eternal rest. Brother Thompkins leaves to cherish precious memories, his devoted wife: Patricia Thompkins; five sons: Artis (Shawanna) Thompkins III, Edward (Shelia) Thompkins, Anthony (Alisa) Thompkins, Willie Thompkins and Bobby (Tarnisha) Thompkins, all of Madison, FL; four daughters: Stephanie Candidate, Jacksonville, FL, Priscilla (Daniel) McKnight, Lekisha Williams and Monica (Anthony) Minor, all of Madison, FL; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings: Bobby Thompkins, Reverend James (Geraldine) Thompkins and Annette (Don) Thompkins, all of Madison, FL; in-laws: Sederick McIntyre and Dederick McIntyre, both of Madison, FL, Calvin McIntyre and Alvin McIntyre, both of Monticello, FL, Anthony McIntyre, Orlando, FL, Loretta (Wilbur), Sanford, FL, Diane West, Madison, FL and Adrena Parker of Tallahassee, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and loving friends.
