Obituary

Ethel Mae Hightower Graham, 92, of Monticello's Waukeenah Community finished her earthly course at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, at St. Phillip AME Church, Monticello, with burial in the Church Cemetery. Viewing-visitation is 4-6 p.m. Friday at St. Phillip. Born and raised in Jefferson County's St. Phillip Community, Mrs. Graham had been a longtime professional housekeeper. She joined St. Phillip in 1944 and served faithfully as a Stewardess, Class Leader, Missionary Society Member and Chairperson of the Kitchen Committee. She was a great story teller, comedian, historian and prayer warrior. Survivors include her children: Alfreddie (Cheryl), Lois Carolyn (Bernard Brooks), Mazie, Reverend Jeffrey (Carol), Ronald (Patricia) and Donald Graham and Lorie Graham (Terry) Keaton; 25 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brother, John (Ada) Hightower; sisters: Dorothy Plummer, Mary V. Ingram, Lenora (Henry) Wiggins, Bernice Hightower and Betty H. Gilley; brother-in-law, Richard Scott; sisters-in-law: Mamie and Esther Graham and Ethel Pyron. Ethel's husband, Lester Graham, preceded her in death.
