Obituary

Gladys McKenzie Goodwin, affectionately known as "Granny", was born in Miami, Florida on October 24, 1944. She was the daughter of Jack McKenzie and Blanche Cooney McKenzie. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; sister: Evelyn McKenzie; and ex-husband: Joe E. Goodwin.

Gladys grew up in Miami and later relocated to Monticello, Florida. She was employed with Artistic Creations. She later worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant with Brynwood Health and Rehabilitation Center and retired after working there for 25 years. Gladys was a devoted mother of four, whose life was a testament to love and service. She was dedicated to her family, community and church. A cherished member of Greater Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, she served in various roles, including: Junior Choir Director, Praise and Worship Leader, member of the Senior Choir, Mother's Board and Associate Minister. She loved praising the Lord! She was well-known in her community as she was a friend to everyone she met.


On Sunday, July 6, 2025, God Almighty summoned His servant child, Evangelist Gladys McKenzie Goodwin Home for her eternal rest. She leaves to cherish precious memories, four children: William Goodwin, Melbourne, FL, Victor Goodwin, Havana, FL, Steven Goodwin, Orlando, FL and Indy (Norman) Mack of Tallahassee, FL; ten grandchildren: Latoya (Antwan) Williams, Christopher Branham, Melissa Lee, Sean Goodwin, Candice (Tyrone) Standifer, Tyeas Goodwin, Nortory Mack, Norman T. (Jazmine) Mack, Jeremiah Goodwin and Makayla Goodwin; eleven great- grandchildren; three brothers: Johnnie (Lettia) McKenzie, Jack (Debra) McKenzie and James McKenzie; three sisters: Jaqueline Queen, Rasheedah (Elmer) Stevenson and Precilla Wells; sister-in-law: Yvette Samuels; godchildren: Henry C., Donnell R. and Gloria N.; caregiver:Corrine Broxsie; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
