Obituary

Gail Livingston Williams was born on December 21, 1949 inTallahassee, Florida to Clarence Livingston and Katherine Gaskins. When Gail was a post-toddler, her mother married Dr. John Moland.Dr. Moland became Gail's father and raised her to adulthood.

Early education for Gail was attained in Tallahassee at John G. Riley Elementary School and later at Griffin Middle School. It was about the time when Dr. Moland secured a position at Grambling University in Grambling, Louisiana. Gail graduated from Grambling's Laboratory School and attended the University for a semester. This was about 1967 and the family moved from Grambling to Nashville, Tennessee. Gail had remined in Grambling but later joined the family in Nashville. Dr. Moland's career was advancing and from Nashville, he landed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at Southern University. It was at Southern where Gail became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and from whence she earned her Bachelor's in Recreational Studies in 1976.

In the late 1980's, she returned to Tallahassee and worked in Childcare for several years. She became active as a volunteer with the Girl Scouts and historic St. James Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church where she served faithfully as an Usher, Stewardess and Recording Steward. By now, she had met her husband, Haywood Williams, Jr., whom she married January 6, 1989. After more than 30 years, she retired from the Florida Department of Revenue. In her leisure, Gail enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, embroidering, quilting and baking. She also enjoyed the company of her close friends: Willa Dennard, Sandra Bellamy, Nicki Hurse, Lisa Brown, Heidi Taylor, Brandi Williams, Kimberly Norton, Henrietta Close, Lorraine Holloway, Ms. June, Cynthia Leland, Geraldine Saulsberry, Linda Yin Yang and Dr. Patricia Wright.

On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, following her courageous and gallant battle with her illness, Sister Gail Williams went Home to be with the Lord. She leaves her love to her devoted husband: Haywood Williams, Jr.; three loving sons: Stefan Bratton, Stacey Bratton and Arsenio A. Williams; two granddaughters: Ruby Duncan and Ayanna Dickens; grandsons: Christopher Bratton, Corey Bratton and Jayden Bratton; a special niece: Nikki Livingston; sister: Dr. Kathryn Moland; brothers: Jesse (Shirley) Moland, John Moland, Gerald Hayes and Michael Livingston; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
