George Joseph Johnson, 100, of Ft. Lauderdale passed there on Monday, July 24, 2023. Graveside services, with military honors, will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Clifford Hill Cemetery. Viewing is 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at TILLMAN OF TALLAHASSEE (850-942-1950). Mr. Johnson was of Bahamian descent. He was a 1940 graduate of Dillard High School and a Montford Point Camp U. S. Marine World War II Veteran. Montford Point was all-black due to racial segregation. He was trained as a Military Police Officer and retired as a New York Law Enforcement Officer. His wife, Hannah Marie Gaines Johnson preceded him in death. Survivors include his daughter, Constance Calhoun; cousins: George and Grace King; brothers-in-law: Elder Robert (Barbara), Ralph (Hilda), McKinley (Gertrude), Elvis and Thomas Gaines; sisters-in-law: Marion Henry, Mae Chatman and Audrey Moore; and a host of other relatives and friends.
