It is with loving remembrance, we announce the passing of Mrs. Gwendolyn B. Kirby , age 75, of Tallahassee, Florida, who departed this earthly life on Sunday, February 15, 2026.
Viewing-visitation for Mrs. Kirby will be 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., Friday, February 20, 2026, at the TILLMAN OF TALLAHASSEE CHAPEL (850-942-1950).
Homegoing Services will be 12:00 p.m., Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church, 1027 Dewey Street, Tallahassee, Florida 32304, with the interment to follow in Oakland Cemetery, 838 N. Bronough Street, Tallahassee, Florida 32303.
Gwendolyn B. Kirby , affectionately known as "Gwen", was born on November 2, 1950 in Tallahassee, Florida. She was the third child born to Louise Nicholson Cohen and Flem Barber. She is preceded in death by her daughter: Kendrill Bonds; parents; and sisters: Cynthia Jackson and Marian Pope.
Gwen met her future husband, Henry Kirby in 1975. After a courtship, they married on August 6, 1979 and enjoyed 46 years of marriage.
Gwen found God at an early age and joined Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church, where she remained faithful until she was unable to serve because of her health. Gwen served as the Chairman of the Mother's Board and the President of Choir No. 2. She spear-headed the Food and Clothing Ministry, serving the surrounding Macedonia Community.
Gwen was one of the first members of the retired Divas of Tallahassee. She also enjoyed traveling with the Church of Christ Written in Heaven Women's Retreat.
Gwen attended Leon County Public Schools and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1969. She also attended Tallahassee Community College (TCC) and Florida A&M University (FAMU).
On Sunday, February 15, 2026, Gwen was called to her Heavenly Home. She is now resting in the arms of her Savior. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Gwen leaves to cherish her precious memories, her loving husband of 46 years: Henry Lee Kirby of Havana, FL; one daughter: Erica N. Kirby of Havana, FL; four sisters: Beverly (Ted) Fryson, Tallahassee, FL, Deborah Cohen and Alder Cohen, both of Tampa, FL, and Angela (Titus) Stallworth of Tallahassee, FL; three brothers: Harold Cohen, James Cohen and Kenneth Cohen, all of Tampa, FL; a special niece: Roshannon (Wayne) Jackson of Tallahassee, FL; four sisters-in-law: Ira Jean Kirby, Eddie Ruth Kirby and Margaret Kirby (Herbert) Harmon, all of Tallahassee, FL and Shelley Kirby of Dayton, OH; two brothers-in -law: John Kirby, Tallahassee, FL and Wilburn Kurl Pope; a goddaughter: Alicia Figgers of Tallahassee, FL; a godson: Cameron Sapp of Tallahassee, FL; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
It is our profound honor to have been entrusted with the care of Ms. Kirby and to serve the Kirby Family.
