Herbert Lee "Simon" Mickens, 63, of Ocala, FL, passed at home on Monday, May 12, 2025. Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 24, at St. Paul M.B. Church, with burial in St. Paul Cemetery. Viewing-visitation is 4-6 p.m. Friday at TILLMAN OF TALLAHASSEE (850-942-1950). A native of Tallahassee's Lake Jackson area, Herbert grew up worshipping at Friendship AME Church. He learned carpentry at an early age and established his carpentry business and later a successful lawncare operation. He was a gifted all-around craftsman. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Collie-Mickens; daughter, Maya Lar'Leesa Mickens; son, Anthony Jackson; granddaughter, Avianna Jackson; grandson, Jayden Christian; stepsons: Galvin Collie and Christopher Dickey; brothers: James Henderson, Jr. and Joseph Lamb; sister, Fannie (James) Jackson; sisters-in-law: Beulah Herrington and Lavetha (Don) Johnson-MooreHead; special aunt, Maggie Mickens; and a host of other relatives and friends.
