Sgt. Major Herbert Lawrence Whaley, 79, of Lamont, FL passed on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. Funeral services are 12 noon Friday (Tomorrow), November 8, at Mt. Pleasant Ministries, with burial following in the Tallahassee National Cemetery. Viewing-visitation is one hour prior to the service (11:00 a.m.) at Mt. Pleasant. Born in Crystal River, FL, Sgt. Major Whaley served 30 years in the U.S. Army. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal W/4 Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal W/60 Device, Air Medal, Bronze Star Medal and Expert (M-14 and M-16 Rifles). Herb loved fishing, shooting guns and riding motorcycles. He leaves his love to his devoted wife, Barbara Washington Whaley; daughters: Sharon Whaley, Tonya Whaley (Moses) Philpot and Karen Whaley; seven grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Ola B. Harris; brothers: Harold (Joan), Phillester and Marvin Whaley, Sr.; and numerous other relatives and friends.
