April 8, 1951 – November 13, 2025
Respectfully, we announce the passing of Mr. James "Jimmy" Omega Houston, Sr. , 74, of Tallahassee, Florida.
Homegoing services for Mr. Houston will be 12:00 PM, Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Old West Enrichment Center with Interment to follow in Clifford Hill Cemetery.
A Tallahassee native, James "Jimmy" Houston, Sr., was born on April 8, 1951, to the late Joseph and Annie Barnes Houston. He was the only son of five children and the second oldest in the family. Jimmy graduated from the Original Lincoln High School in Tallahassee.
On April 8, 1991, "Jimmy" married the love of his life, Debra Williams. He worked for the Tallahassee Democrat and later for the Leon County School District Department of Transportation, where he retired after 17 years of dedicated service. A talented mechanic, "Jimmy" also worked in several local auto shops over the years.
Among his close racing friends, the Tallahassee Stables and Triple J Racing, he was known as "China Boy." "Jimmy" was a proud Florida Gators fan who loved watching football, working on cars, and spending time with his family, grandchildren, and friends. He also loved socializing with the fellows in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot.
"Jimmy" accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Horeb Primitive Baptist Church, where he became a member and sang in the Male Chorus.
On November 13, 2025, Jimmy heard the Master's Call, saying, " Come Home and take your rest."
Jimmy's life will forever be cherished by his wife, Debra Williams Houston, Tallahassee, FL; sons, James (LaSonja) Houston, Jr. of Deltona, FL, Deforrest (Mignon) Houston of Gainesville, FL, Antuwn Stevens, and Kurtis (Kanika) Miller, both of Tallahassee, FL; daughters, LaTonya (Jerome) Jackson, Felicia Hardnett, both of Tallahassee, FL, Carmisha Houston of Tampa, FL and Erika (Verne) Williams of Jacksonville, FL; 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; godson, Devin Williams, Jr.; sisters, Leatha Houston Jones and Debra Houston, both of Tallahassee, FL, Delores Houston Hampton of Lakeland, FL; aunt, Ruby Wilson; uncle, William (Annie) Barnes, both of Tallahassee, FL; a host of relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.
It is our profound honor to have been entrusted with the care of Mr. Houston and to serve the Houston Family.
