June 14, 1946 – April 15, 2025
Lonnie Rackley, Jr., 78, of Tallahassee passed on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Funeral services are 12:00 noon Friday, April 25, at the Old West Enrichment Center, with interment at Desota Field Cemetery. Viewing-visitation is 4-6 p.m. Thursday at TILLMAN OF TALLAHASSEE (850-942-1950). A Tallahassee native and 1964 graduate of the original Lincoln High School, Lonnie earned his Bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts from Florida A&M University. He began what would become a 55-year career with the City of Tallahassee's Department of Growth Management as a Building Inspector. He was the first Black person to serve in this role. He also worked part-time for the City's Parks & Recreation Department. Lonnie loved Athletics and aside from refereeing, he coached his Pee-Wee football team, the Riley Bears, who went 10 years straight undefeated. Treasuring his love and legacy are his devoted wife, Janie Kelly Rackley; loving children: Minister Lonnie (Bethany) Rackley III, Cathy Quintyne, Debbie Henderson and Joan (David) Sutton; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings: Charles (Juanita) Rackley, Wendell (Dorothy) Rackley, Brenda (Stoney) Reese and Jacquelyne Mann; and a host of other relatives and friends.
