Mother Matilda Ferguson Thomas, 92, of Greenville passed on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday at her church, Sanctuary of Praise, with burial in St. Matthews Cemetery, Greenville. Viewing is 4-5 p.m. Friday, with a Wake from 5-6 p.m., both at the Sanctuary. Mrs. Thomas graduated from Greenville Training School and retired from Florida Plywood. She was a community advocate and superb gardener. Survivors include her sons: James (Carol Dean) Lockett, Willy F. (Ruby) & Michael Akins, Marvin & Kinsey Thomas, Jr.; daughters: Rev. Dr. Barbara T. (Jerome) Reddick, Linda T. (Charles) Burgess, Cynthia, Kimela,Tanya & Shimoqua (Courtney) Thomas; 37 grand & 38 great-grandchildren; sisters: Dorothy Jinks & LaVonne (Darryl) Umstead; & brothers: Willie & Gary Jinks.
