Minnie Rhanes Williams Mathews, 87, of Tallahassee passed at home on Friday, October 6, 2023. Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday in Southside Cemetery. Viewing is 4-6 p.m. Friday at TILLMAN OF TALLAHASSEE (850-942-1950). A former Monticello resident, "Miss Minnie" was a graduate of Florida A&M University. A former Gadsden County teacher, she was the owner of Mathews Grocery in the Bond Community. She also was a Deaconess and Pastor's Aide Board member at Memorial M.B. Church. Survivors include nieces raised as her daughters: Shelia Morris and Dorothy (Cecil) Pompey; sisters: Addie Wallace, Rosa Morris and Patricia Jones; brothers: Johnny (Berlinda) Morris, Roosevelt Brooks, Minister Samuel (Vanessa) Tillman, James Miller, George (Camille) McMillian and Thomas (Paula) Morris; aunt, Maggie Mickens; special friend, Louis Strickland, Sr.; and several godchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Minnie's husbands, Johnnie Williams and Richard Mathews, Jr. preceded her in death.
