It is with deepest sympathy, we announce the passing of Ms. Nettie Mae Johnson Martin, 83, of Monticello, Florida, who departed this earthly life on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.

Viewing-visitation will be 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., Friday, June 26, 2026, at the TILLMAN OF MONTICELLO CHAPEL (850-997-5553).

Funeral Services will be 12:00 p.m., Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Greater Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 690 Cypress Street, Monticello, Florida 32344, with the interment to follow in Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church Cemetery, 6641 Lake Road, Monticello, FL 32344.

In Remembrance of a life well lived...

Ms. Nettie Mae Johnson Martin

Nettie Mae Johnson Martin, was born on September 7, 1942, to the late Eddie "Bubba" Johnson and Cora Isom Johnson in Monticello, Florida. She was the third child born in this union. From the age of two, her grandparents, the late Willie Johnson, Sr., and Nettie Morris Johnson reared Nettie Mae into adulthood.

From an early age, Nettie Mae's grandparents taught her about the Lord Jesus Christ and the value of hard work, while instilling in her strong moral and ethical principles. Their loving guidance helped shape the remarkable woman she became. She held a deep affection for her grandmother Nettie, her namesake whom she called Momma, whose kindness, generosity, and respected place in the community became a guiding example. Throughout her life, Nettie Mae sought to reflect her grandmother's grace and embodied those same beautiful virtues in all she did.

Nettie Mae was a lifelong resident of Monticello and attended the public schools of Jefferson County, Florida. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and became a lifelong member of Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church in Monticello, where she faithfully served as a stewardess and class leader.

At age seventy-nine, Nettie Mae retired from Simpson Nursery after 45 years of dedicated service. She enjoyed working in her garden, spending time with family and friends, helping others, baking sweet potato pies, going to buffets, and sharing meals with loved ones.

Nettie Mae Johnson Martin peacefully passed away in her sleep on June 16, 2026. She leaves cherished memories with her five children- three daughters and two sons: Linda Johnson Miller of Tallahassee, Florida; Mary Johnson Seabrooks and Lucille Johnson Cofield (Henry) of Monticello, Florida; and Eliga Johnson and Sampson Martin of Tallahassee, Florida.

Her memory will be treasured by her surviving siblings: Ella Mae Johnson Graham of Bellview, Florida; Katie Johnson (Eugene) Jones of Deltona, Florida; Tonny Johnson of Altamonte Springs, Florida; and Theodore "Leroy" (Vanessa) McKinney of Ocala, Florida.

In addition to her parents and grandparents, Nettie Mae was preceded in death by her two granchildren, Chadrick Mosley and Breanna Mosley. She is survived by fourteen granchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She will also be deeply missed by a special cousin whom she loved as one of her own children,  Susie Walker (Rollin) Williams of Tallahassee, Florida, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.

Nettie Mae held a special place in the community, and many others considered her their second mother, aunt, sister, and grandmother.

It is our esteemed honor to have been entrusted with the care of Ms. Martin and to serve her family.
