There is a designated time for every purpose beneath the heavens, and that moment arrived on April 16, 1947, when Oscar Burney, Jr., was brought into this world. He was the offspring of Oscar Burney, Sr., and Cora Washington. Oscar spent his formative years in Leon County before his family moved to Perry, Florida. He received his education within the Taylor County School System and graduated from Jerkins High School.
Upon completing high school, Oscar returned to Leon County, obtained his Commercial Driver's License (CDL), and dedicated over two decades to working as a truck driver for a logging company. Subsequently, he spent more than 25 years as a supervisor for truck drivers at Sanco Construction Company.
Oscar was recognized for his gentle nature, kindness, humility, and passion for the Florida State Seminoles football team. The Lord sensed Oscar was weary and gently called him home to rest on December 10, 2025.
Oscar is survived by his beloved wife of forty years, Mable Wiggins Burney. His legacy of love will continue through his daughters, Andrea Burney, Marsha Thomas, and Felicia Gilyard, all of Tallahassee; sons, Anthony Manning of Tallahassee and Charles Wooden of San Antonio, TX; siblings, Leroy (Jackie) Burney, Willie (Dorothy) Burney, Viola (James) Miller, and Marie (James) Branton, all of Perry, FL; Ida Arnold and Mary Young of Tallahassee, FL; Cora Burney and Josephine Burney of Perry, FL; aunt, Ruby Lee Green of Ft. Myers, FL; uncle, Jiles (Sylvia) Washington of Tallahassee, FL; in-laws, Henry (Lenora) Wiggins and Charlie (Julia) James of Tallahassee, FL, and Catherine Herring of Havana, FL; along with 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous other loving relatives and friends.
