Reginuer D. Perkins was born to Robert Dean, Sr. and Trudie Chester Perkins on July 11, 1959 in Tallahassee, Florida. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Robert Sr. and Trudie; and his sisters, Loretta Perkins and Mildred Chester Johnson.
Affectionately known as Reggie , he was educated at the public schools of Leon County and excelled academically in music and athletics. Reggie was one of the first African-American students to attend Hartsfield Elementary. He later attended James S. Rickards High School where he played the drums and excelled in football, as an All-Big Bend running back. He graduated from Rickards in 1977. He continued his football career at Alabama A&M University and received his degree in Computer Science in 1982. Reggie later went on to play semi-professional football with the Tallahassee Statesman.
Reggie worked in the Tampa Bay area as a computer programmer/systems analyst and coached football at Countryside High School in Clearwater, Florida before returning home to work for Leon County Schools in Tallahassee as a Security Specialist, Assistant Dean of Students and Head JV Football Coach at Rickards High School. Reggie was an advocate for social justice and he was a member of the Greater Bond Neighborhood Safety and Crime Prevention Committee. He was commended by law enforcement for his courageous and vigilant efforts to keep his community safe. He was a longtime University of Florida Gator fan and was known for his collection and consistent display of Gator apparel and gear.
Reggie loved music and was a professional DJ for many years. He was a music guru with the ultimate music collection. He would spin the sounds for all family reunions and gatherings. Listening to music was his favorite pastime and helped soothe his soul.
A gentle giant with a sweet spirit, Reggie LOVED HIS FAMILY. Though he didn't have children, he adored all of his nieces and nephews and he made each one of them feel like they were his favorite.
Reggie accepted Christ and was converted at an early age and he was a member of the Greater Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church. On Saturday, July 11, 2020, God Almighty summoned Reggie Home on his 61st birthday for his eternal rest. His relatives and friends will forever cherish memories of his life and legacy. Reggie is survived by a host of family and friends including, one sister: Jacqueline (Samuel Randolph) Perkins; two brothers: Robert D. (Beverly) Perkins, Jr. and Romerio (Sharon) Perkins, all of Tallahassee, FL; nieces and nephews: Felicia Perkins, Chaka Perkins, Jamil Perkins, William (Daphnee) Rouse, Jr., Ila (Ariel) Perkins-Escoto, Roy (Kristen) Mathis, Jr., Sharisse Perkins, Yolanda D. Speed and Willie James Speed III; special great-niece: Tashi (Fassy) Martin; special cousin: Alvin Jefferson; and a host of other relatives and loving friends.
