"The LORD is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?'  PSALMS 27:1

Roberta White Carney was born in Exmore Virginia on August 16,1945 to her parents Virginia Gunter White and William White. Roberta was proceeded in death by her parents; brothers: William and Edward White; and her sister Pearl Chance.

Roberta was raised in the church and became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Exmore Virginia, where she was baptized down by the creek in 1963.  She graduated high school in 1964 from Northampton County High School in Virginia and went on to further her education at Elizabeth City State College in North Carolina and Tallahassee Community College in Florida.

Roberta eventually moved to New York, where she worked as a substitute teacher. During that time, she met Walter White. The two later married and made their home in Tallahassee, Florida.

While in Tallahassee, Roberta worked for the Department of Labor, from which she later retired. She also served as a substitute teacher with the Leon County Schools, where she took great joy in keeping a watchful eye on her grandson, Isaac.

Although Roberta grew up in the Baptist Church, she later joined St. James CME Church, where she served faithfully for many years as a stewardess and missionary board member. Later, she worshiped alongside her daughter at New Mount Zion AME Church, continuing her dedicated service in the same ministries. She also led a heartfelt clothing ministry where she recycled her own garments and collecting donations from family and friends to donate to various charities. Her generosity and compassion touched many lives.

She was proud to be a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and the Red Hatters organization, where she found friendship, fellowship, and joy in serving others.

Roberta's faith, kindness, and giving spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Roberta was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to many.  She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter: Aldria (Gary) Futrell; grandchildren: Dan Richardson Jr. (Patrice), Ashante' Richardson-Hamilton (late Matthew) and Isaac Richardson; four great grandchildren, Matthew, Keyshawn, Kamari, and Zaina; nephews Roscoe White, Selwyn White (Delores), Derek White (Regina), and her beloved Kenneth Chance II; niece Dona Gunter; Godson Arthur Stephens (AJ); and a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, family and friends.

It is our esteemed honor to have been entrusted with the care of Mrs. Carney and to serve the Carney Family.
