Roosevelt McNeil Jr., 78 of Tallahassee, FL passed on December 9, 2024 at First Commerce Center for
Compassionate Care (Big Bend Hospice) at TMH in Tallahassee, FL.
A Graveside Services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery (1601 Old Bainbridge Road) in Tallahassee,
FL at 12PM on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.
Known to many as "Mac", "McNeil", "Head" and "Junior", Roosevelt attended public schools in both Leon
County and Wakulla County School Districts and was a member of the 1964 graduating class of
Shadeville High School.
After returning to Tallahassee from New Haven, CT and Long Island, NY he worked for the city of
Tallahassee and retired in 2014. He was also a long-time FHSAA Basketball Referee until 2016 as a
member of both the Big Bend and Quincy Associations.
Survivors include his wife, Vera Norwood-McNeil; two daughters, Sonya Knight and Andrea McNeil,
Tallahassee, FL; step-sons, Quentyn Black (Kedist) and Tremayne Black, Tallahassee, FL; favorite
brother, Willie "Sonny" McNeil (Pauline), Tallahassee, FL; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Andrews (Carol),
Tampa, FL and Samuel Norwood Jr, Canton, VA; sisters-in-law Sandra Beauford Strothers, Rochester,
NY and Eartha Norwood, Jacksonville, FL; special step-granddaughter, Diana Rose Black, Tallahassee,
FL; life-long Friends, Beryl Carr, Crawfordville, FL, Sylvester (Boo) Davis, Kevin Kelly, Carolyn Kelley and
Michael Nelson, Tallahassee, FL; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Roosevelt was predeceased by his parents Roosevelt McNeil Sr. and Alvie Williams McNeil; son, Lindsey
Jefferson; sisters, Edlene Shepherd Dunbar, Ethel Lee Johnson and Janie McNeil Rhodes.
