Obituary

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mrs. Ruth B. Taylor, 97, of Tallahassee, Florida, who departed this earthly life on Thursday, May 21, 2026.

Viewing-visitation will be 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., Friday, June 5, 2026, at the TILLMAN OF TALLAHASSEE CHAPEL (850-942-1950).

Homegoing Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Union Branch AME Church, 9961 Lake Road, Monticello, FL 32344.

Ruth Brooks Taylor was born in Monticello, Florida, on May 6, 1929. She was the daughter of Hosea and Addie Brooks. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wilbert Taylor; son, Hosea A. Baulkmon; parents; and twin sister, Ethel Sampson.

Ruth confessed Christ at an early age and joined Union Branch African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, where she faithfully served until her health began to decline. She received her early education at Union Branch Church School and graduated from Howard Academy High School. She later attended Florida Agricultural and Mechanical College for Negroes (FAMC, now known as Florida A&M University), where she earned a vocational certificate in cosmetology. As a beautician, she touched many hearts—and heads—with her kindness, compassion, and skill, serving graciously until her retirement.

Ruth was a devoted sister to her twin, Ethel. The two were inseparable throughout their lives. She was also the loving mother of Hosea Ash Baulkmon, affectionately known as "Tiny Man."

In 1969, Ruth married Wilbert Robert Taylor, and together they shared a loving and happy marriage until his passing in 2001.

Ruth’s unwavering dedication to family was matched only by her passion for faith and community service. A cherished member of Union Branch AME Church, she served faithfully in numerous capacities, including the Stewardess Board, Usher Board, Kitchen Committee, and Hospitality Ministry. Her vibrant spirit extended throughout the community. She participated in the Foster Grandparent Program, Eagle Nest at Tallahassee Community College, and served as a daycare grandparent, where she forged lasting friendships and touched generations of children with her warmth and love.

On May 21, 2026, Ruth heard and answered the Master's call and is now "Safely Home." She leaves to cherish her loving memory her grandchildren: Alexia Lunningham, Nikita Benton, Christopher Baulkmon, and Maya Baulkmon; eleven great-grandchildren; and her nieces: Barbara Clayton, a special caregiver, and Deborah Glenn. She also leaves a host of special nieces, nephews, other relatives, and loving friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Ruth’s love, faith, and gentle spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
