Sabreen Lateefah McGee , was born on February 10, 1953, in Buford, South Carolina to the late Benjamin Heyward and Emma Heyward Gavin. She was raised in Tallahassee and was a proud graduate of Godby High School, Class of 1970.
Affectionately known as "Terry," Sabreen was a woman of strength, grace, and unwavering resilience. She dedicated her life first and foremost to God and her family, embodying Proverbs 31:28: "Her children rise up and call her blessed." She worked faithfully as a Computer Analyst at Florida Department of Law Enforcement for many years, demonstrating excellence, intelligence, and integrity in all she did. Her big personality, warm spirit, and compassionate heart touched everyone she encountered.
Sabreen was a devoted wife to her loving husband, Horace D. McGee, a nurturing and steadfast mother, a proud and doting grandmother, a caring sister, and a faithful friend. Her greatest joy was caring for her family and creating a home filled with laughter, wisdom, good food, and unconditional love. She poured into her children and grandchildren not only love, but faith, strength, and life lessons that will endure for generations.
Sabreen peacefully transitioned from labor to reward on February 16. 2026 at home, surrounded by her loving family. While our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in God's promise that "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8).
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her devoted husband, Horace D. McGee; her loving children, Akilah Akbar (Rico), Saad Akbar (Ishawna), and Ajeenah McCurdy (Jeremy); her cherished grandchildren, Saad Akbar Jr., Miquela Tettey, Dezmond Smith, Ayanna Akbar, Triniti Tettey, Azirah McCurdy, Amyah Akbar, Alisha McCurdy, Aniyah Akbar, and Israel McCurdy; her dear siblings, Ruthie Flowers (Renaldo), Sharon Williams(Glen), Veronica Williams, and Elvis Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever honor her life and legacy.
She was preceded in death by her fathers, Benjamin Heyward and Hubert B. Gavin; her mother, Emma Heyward Gavin; her sister, Pansy Coleman; her brothers, Bo Donaldson, Benjamin Heyward Jr., Samuel Heyward, and Sam Coleman.
Though we grieve, we stand on the assurance of God's Word: "The Lord is my shepherd… Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever" (Psalm 23:1,6). Sabreen's earthly journey has ended, but her faith has become sight.
It is our esteemed honor to have been entrusted with the care of Mrs. McGee and to serve the McGee Family.
