Ms. Tamer Thompson, 93, of Tallahassee passed, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, March 30. 2025. Homegoing services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday at New Zion AME Church, with burial in Southside Cemetery. Viewing-visitation is 4-6 p.m. Friday at TILLMAN OF TALLAHASSEE (850-942-1950). A lifelong Tallahassee resident, Ms. Thompson was a 1951 graduate of the original Lincoln High School. She worked for years at Sunland and following its closure, she worked at Florida State Hospital, Chattahoochee. From there she worked as a Maintenance Supervisor on Plant Operations at Florida A&M, from which she retired. She was a longtime member of New Mt. Zion where she served diligently in several ministries ( Chairperson, Stewardess Board # 3, Pastor's Aide Board, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Meals on Wheels, Class Leader and Breakfast Ministry). Survivors include her son, Ira (Cynthia) Gaines; niece/bonus daughter, Carolyn Jackson; granddaughter, Kimberly Gaines; bonus granddaughter, Ranijah Simpson; brother, Charles E. Thompson, Sr.; and countless nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
