Obituary

Willie James "Sweet" Thompson, 74, of Tallahassee passed unexpectedly on Friday, June 14, 2024. Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Friday (Tomorrow), June 28, at the Old West Enrichment Center, with burial in Oakland Cemetery. Viewing-visitation is 4-6 p.m. Thursday (Today) at TILLMAN OF TALLAHASSEE. "Sweet" was a 1967 graduate of the original Lincoln High School. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Sociology from FAMU. He retired after more than 20 years from CENTEL (Sprint) as an Operator. He had previously worked as a Correctional Counselor and with the Supervisor of Elections Office, Emergency Management and Children and Families. An accomplished vocalist, he sang with several groups, including the Accumulations, Mister, the Zodiacs and Pie and the Disciples. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Barbara Pye Thompson; son, Gibran A. Thompson; sister, Barbara T. (Sam) Ford; mother-in-law, Mrs. Mercedes Pye; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
