Obituary

Earthly life for Mary Ellen Merritt Booth began in Adel (Cook County), Georgia on September 9, 1940 when she was born to Eddie and Rosetta Totan Merritt. Mary Ellen was one of 20 children from Eddie and Rosetta's union. Both of her parents preceded her in death.

Mary Ellen grew up in her native Adel and at about the age of 16, she married John Huewitt. Following their marriage, the two moved to Trenton, New Jersey. The Huewitts began their own family in Trenton where they remained for almost 45 years. Through their union, eight beautiful children, two daughters and six sons were born. While in Trenton, she worked at Princeton Hospital and was a devoted member of Way of the Cross Church. Mary Ellen later married Irvin Booth and they adopted Troy, Jontayle, Tanya, and Dane. In 1999, her family moved to Tallahassee, Florida and Mother Booth became a member of Cathedral of Faith Ministries.

While at home or at church, one could hear Mother Booth singing songs of Zion. She loved the Lord and was unashamed to sing His praises. She was a devoted homemaker and was also known to dote on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mother Booth was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and "mother" to many.

On Sunday, September 1, 2019, Mother Mary Ellen Merritt Booth answered the Master's call and went Home to be with the Lord. Other than her parents, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her son, David Huewitt; and 11 siblings, four brothers and seven sisters. Mother Booth's love and memory will be cherished forever by her loving daughters: Patricia (Wesley) Holley and Karen Huewitt, both of Tallahassee, FL; loving sons: John A. (Connie) Huewitt, Norfolk, VA; Isaac J. Huewitt, Dennis Huewitt, Darryl (Pennie) Huewitt, and Kenneth Huewitt, all of Tallahassee, FL; her loving siblings: Helen, Bessie, OB, Whit, Roy, Charles, Cleve and Cleo; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
